Aliqua Pottery offers a range of pottery classes at Colwell Arts & Education Centre. There is plenty of free parking at the Centre. These pottery classes are taught by Patrick Esson a traditional potter that trained at Prinknash Abbey Potteries Ltd in the late 1970’s in the beautiful setting of Painswick, Gloucestershire. Patrick has taught pottery for over 20 years to schools, less abled and adults.

Payment can be made via the Online Store in this website. The classes are listed under ‘A Pottery Workshops’. Cancellation can be made up to three working days before your scheduled class. Your fee will be refunded deducting 20% as a non-refundable deposit.

Pottery Classes – Adults


Adults Modelling Class – Half Day or Evening

Pottery class content:

This is a fun, hands-on pottery class where you work to your own ability with help close at hand. Although you are in a class with other students you are taught on a one-to-one basis. The classes will contain a maximum of eight students to ensure that each student gets attention. There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the pottery classes.

You’ll learn the basic hand-building technique of working with clay called pinching followed by the other pottery techniques coiling & slab work. You will also learn how to create texture in clay and how to apply colour through the use of coloured slips and glazes and how to work the three techniques together.

This pottery class is suitable for Beginners and intermediates. You will gain experience of working with clay and decorating your work. Each piece will have two firings, bisquit and a glaze firing. You will develop an understanding of the possibilities that clay offers as a material to work with and learn through demonstration and application the process required to achieve a finished piece.

Fees for your pottery class: £45 Half Day (3 hours) or £260 for six Half Day classes

£25 Evening (Mondays 6.30 – 8.30) or £140 for six Evening Classes

Firing and materials for an additional charge based on the size of the piece – starts at £5

Adults Throwing on the Potters Wheel – Full day or Half Day

Pottery class content:

This is a fun, hands-on pottery class where you work to your own ability with help close at hand. Although you are in a class with other students you are taught on a one-to-one basis. The classes will contain a maximum of four students to ensure that each student gets attention. There is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the workshop.

You’ll learn how to throw a pot on the wheel. This pottery class is suitable for Beginners. You will gain experience on how to prepare the clay, centre the clay on the wheel and pulling the clay up into a pot. In a full day class and six class course you will also learn how to decorate your pieces. You will develop an understanding of the possibilities that clay offers as a material to work with and learn through demonstration the process required to achieve a finished piece. At the end of the pottery class your piece will be fired and available for collection 3 weeks later.

Fees for your pottery class: £100 Full Day – (1.5 hours allowed for lunch – plenty of time to visit a local pub for a pub lunch. Cost of lunch not included),

£55 Half Day, £300 for six Half Day Classes

Firing of finished pieces charged based on size of piece – starts at £5 per piece
